I create striking silver jewellery through the acts of striking, sawing, firing, soldering, polishing and sometimes even cursing. Mostly I am flat out having fun. I feel very fortunate to have this interest, albeit an expensive one! I am Kirsty Mawer.
I have been playing around with silver jewellery making for many years but only recently set up a dedicated workspace to practice my skills and expand my interest. Every piece is hand-made using old fashioned techniques. It is hugely labour intensive but very satisfying.
I am a practicing affiliate member of the Gold and Silversmith Guild of Australia which means my jewellery is ‘stamped’ with my own mark and the mark of the metal. 925 is the mark for sterling silver. 375 is the mark for gold. K/M and are my personal maker’s marks so jewellery made by me is stamped for your assurance of origin and quality of metal.
I get inspiration for my designs from my environment and my travels. Each piece has a personal story. Each stone is sourced from people I have met and trust, some from out in the gem fields and others from high end retail gem shops. The sterling silver I use is from Melbourne silver suppliers and it is all Australian recycled 925 sterling silver.
I am a jewellery artist, not a jeweller. I make one of a kind wearable art. I am happy to talk to you about making something special for you if you can’t find the ideal piece from my collection. Please feel free to get in touch.
Thank you for supporting local artists.
Nothing but the best,
Kirsty Mawer
