In my art, colour and light is everything.

I am an artist who lives at Rhyll on Phillip Island, where I share a studio with my husband Ian Pascoe.

I strive to create kaleidoscopes of colour and love developing subtle combinations of opalescent colours to create a unique artistic statement.

I have always delighted in watercolour (my first love) and love experimenting with the magical effects of watercolours on unusual supports such as Yupo and canvas.  I relish the challenge of exploiting the apparent impossibility of managing watercolour on Yupo. I think I am close to mastering it!

I have also recently begun to work in acrylics on canvas, delighting in their suitability for seascapes and landscapes.

Originally flowers were a source of inspiration and still fascinate me, as there is so much to see in one beautiful bloom.  In landscapes, it is light which is the fascination – light filtering through trees, falling on grass and leaves and flowers. In seascapes it is the interplay of water and light that begs to be captured.

For many years soft pastels were a favourite medium until I discover oil pastels which, when combined with soft pastels on a ground of black wet-and-dry sandpaper, create a jewel-like effect. On dark grounds, oil pastels alone on both sand-paper and canvas are extraordinarily vivid, and the textures achieved make soft pastels look dull.

Our move to Phillip Island in 2011 has opened up such an unending array of inspirations, seascapes, landscapes, wildlife and plants, that it would take several lifetimes to exploit all the ideas that they suggest – watch this space!
